Rev. Joseph Bachtiger entered into eternal rest on Friday September 17, 2021 in Pompano Beach, Florida. He was 84 years old.
Father was born and raised in Philadelphia and attended St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia. For 37 years he worked as a banker for Bryn Mawr Trust Company and later served as priest at St. Mary the Virgin Church in Paulsboro, NJ, as well as Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence. He was a member of Lago Mar Resort and Beach Club, enjoyed classical music and attending the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Varano of Gibbstown and many nieces and nephews. Father Bachtiger was predeceased by his father, Harold Bachtiger, his mother, Mary Azzarello and his sister, Carol Edwards.
His Requiem Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church, 321 S. Broadway, Lawrence on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the church on Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Interment will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania.
