LYNNE PHILLIPS HEARD
A MEDFORD GIRL

Lynne Phillips Heard has lived in Methuen, Massachusetts for many years but she was truly a Medford Girl. Lynne loved the community that embraced and nurtured her. She loved the sense of “community” which West Medford offers, the comradery, community spirit and the coming together in times of need.
She will always be considered a” MEDFORD GIRL”.

Lynne married Robert Heard 44 years ago. Not only were they husband and wife, but best friends, constant companions, shared the same ideals and they became one. The love they share is indescribable and everyone marvels at the tenderness, commitment, and compassion they share. Lynne and Robert were devoted to the two “road runners” Mrs. Phillips and Eddie. They accompanied them on many of their various activities. Lynne attended Shiloh Baptist Church in West Medford as a youngster and always talked about the annual “Baptist Church Picnic” held in Salem.

Lynne graduated from Medford High School and attended Junior College. Lynne had an extensive career in public service on the local and state level. Lynne held positions at the Massachusetts Department of Community Affairs, State Department of Transportation serving as Diversity Director and Assistant to the Commissioner of the Highway Department. Lynne’s employment on the local level included serving as the Librarian at the West Medford Public Library. Lynne lobbied and succeeded in the acquiring the old fire house as a library for children in West Medford so they did not have to cross a railroad track to get to the main library. Lynne also served as Affirmative Action Officer for the City of Medford and worked at Tri-Cap in Malden. Additionally, Lynne was an entrepreneur. Lynne was co-founder of SHE, Inc. a direct sales company and owner of Leather and Lace which she designed and manufactured leather accessories. She always encouraged young people to become entrepreneurs and enterprising.

Lynne was predeceased by her parents George and Marion Phillips, sister Gail Gunn. Lynne is survived by her beloved husband Robert Heard, Edward Cefalo and his children and grandchildren, brother-in-law Walter Gunn, step-daughters Aleeta and Roberta and many beloved cousins and friends.

Her Funeral Service will be celebrated in the West Medford Baptist Church, 59 Boston Avenue, Medford on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 11AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visitation will be held in the church, prior to the service, from 9:30 to 11 AM. Interment will be held in the West Parish Garden Cemetery in Andover.
