Obituary

Orville E. Northcutt, 91, of Windham, NH died Sunday July 25, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Northcutt was born in Crawfordsville, IN on June 15, 1930, the son of the late Walter and Alberta (Swank) Northcutt.

Mr. Northcutt was a graduate of Gallaudet University Class of 1956 with a degree in Mathematics. He had a 30 year career in the Civil Service attached to the Space Command in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a leader in the deaf community where he held many offices in the local chapters of the National Association of the Deaf and the Gallaudet University Alumni Association. In retirement, he and his wife moved to Dover, DE where he was a member at Maple Dale and Wild Quail country clubs as well as Grace Church. He was an avid golfer and contract Bridge player and in his later years, a poker and cribbage player. He had an amazing sense of humor that was evident to anyone who was around him. For him, his family was the most important thing and he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Lyla Lee (Broderius) Northcutt in 2016. He is survived by his son, Dr. Albert C. Northcutt and his wife Martha of Windham, his daughter, Caroline A. Greene and her husband Steve of Dover, DE, six grandchildren, Alexander Zocchi and his wife Denise, Jacob Northcutt, Madalyn Dow and her husband Jordan, Spencer Greene, Audrey Greene, and Clara Greene. He also leaves four great-grandchildren, three siblings, Paul Northcutt of Warsaw, IN, Linda Stewart of Waynetown, IN, and Joretta Jones of Brooklyn, MI as well as many nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, a celebration of his life will be held in Crawfordsville, IN at a date to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made in Orville’s memory to the Gallaudet University Alumni Association.
