Guido C. Frongillo, 91

No one had to remind Guy Frongillo to “always remember his roots.” His roots were his beloved Mansfield, where he was born, raised, and lived most of his life. Guido C. Frongillo, known as “Guy,” passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the age of 91 at Cornerstone of Canton. He was the husband of the late Winifred L. “Winnie” (McCarry) Frongillo, who died on January 19, 2016. Winnie and Guy were married for nearly sixty-three years.
Guy was born in Mansfield, Massachusetts on November 5, 1929, and was the son of Italian immigrants, Biagio and Assunta (DeSantis) Frongillo, who hailed from Montemiletto, a small town in the province of Avellino in the Campania region of Southern Italy. The youngest of six children, Guy had two brothers, John and Armando Frongillo, and three sisters, Grace (Rossi) Karol, Louise Nasise, and Gloria Bernard.
Raised in the “North End” of Mansfield, Guy was ingrained in the life and culture of the Town. He attended Mansfield schools and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1949. He played football for MHS and was voted “Most Sociable” of his class. While in high school, Guy met Winnie, also from Mansfield, and they married on Valentine’s Day of 1953.
Following graduation, Guy attended Wentworth Institute and Trade School in Taunton to pursue a career as an electrician. From 1957 to 1974, he worked as a union electrician for IBEW Local #235 in Taunton. One of his proudest Mansfield accomplishments was performing the electrical work on the newly built Mansfield High School. Guy later started his own business, Frongillo Electric, in Mansfield, and wired many of the new homes built in Mansfield’s housing boom in the 1980s. He also served as the Town’s Electrical Inspector.
Winnie and Guy had three children: Nancy, Tommy, and Billy. Guy played an active role in all of his children’s lives, attending countless school and athletic events. He coached the Mansfield Little League Dodgers to numerous league championships and was an active member of the MHS Booster Club and Mansfield Gridiron Club.
Guy and Winnie spent many years at their home in Chatham on Cape Cod, where Guy enjoyed going on long walks, attending Chatham A’s baseball games, and shell fishing. He was a devout communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield.
He is survived by his devoted children: Nancy L. Sliney and her husband Edward, Jr. of Mansfield, Thomas C. Frongillo and his wife Margarita of Milton and Norfolk, and William D. Frongillo of Needham. He was the cherished “nonno” of Kristy Fontaine, Justin Sliney, Alexander “Alexi” Frongillo, Timothy Frongillo, John Frongillo, Faye Frongillo and the great grandfather of Max Fontaine. He dearly loved his many nieces and nephews, including those of the Frongillo and Kirby families. Guy will be remembered for the genuine interest he took in others and how he favorably touched their lives.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, July 23rdr from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 24th at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. The burial will follow at The Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
