Obituary

HUGHES, Craig Stephen, Retired Fire Chief of Dover, MA passed away on July 15, 2021 after his battle with Cancer at the age of 64 in Dover, surrounded by his loving family. Craig was born on July 4, 1957 to the late John M. Hughes Jr. and Constance M. Hughes.

A lifelong Dover resident, Craig’s love and commitment to serving his community for 45 years was unquestionable. His service to his friends and neighbors as Dover’s Fire Chief and Superintendent of Streets has left a permanent impression on the community. Craig was such an important part of many of our lives and has impacted so many people.

Craig was as humble as they come. It was his leadership, calm and caring nature that made him the face you wanted to see in your time of need. There have been so many stories shared that showed Craigs’ willingness to always help others.

Craig could be found starting his days at Dover Country Properties enjoying coffee with his brothers Jay and Paul. These were the times they shared many laughs and remarked on memories from over the years.

Craig was a devoted father and loving husband. When he wasn’t at work, he spent his days with family and friends. One of his greatest joys was spending time on Cape Cod with his family. He loved the ocean and taking rides to Rock Harbor.

Craig is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 35 years, Carol (Dimuzio) Hughes and proud and loving father of Laura Hughes of Medfield, James Hughes of Dover, Leslie Campbell and her husband Andrew of Millis. Survived by his loving brothers and sister John (Jay) Hughes III of Dover, Scott Hughes and his wife Cheryl of Dover, Gail Reimann and her husband Kurt of Dover, Paul Hughes and his wife Meg of Duxbury. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street (Rt.16) Wellesley on Friday, July 23, from 4-8pm followed by a funeral from the funeral home on Saturday, July 24, at 9am. Funeral Mass in Most Precious Blood Church, Dover at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Dover. Donations may be made on Craig Hughes’ behalf to Dover Firefighters’ Relief Association, PO Box 193, Dover, MA 02030.
