Frances Armata Fitzgerald, 96, of Sherborn, Massachusetts and Old Lyme, Connecticut died Thursday, July 8, 2021. Born in Holyoke, MA, on September 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Armata.
In 1949, she married John Edward Fitzgerald and together they raised their family in Springfield, MA, where they were active members of Holy Cross Parish. They moved to Sherborn in 2000 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Frances especially cherished her home at Old Lyme Shores where her extended family and friends gathered.
She is survived by her ten children, Ann Fitzgerald-Dunn (Edward) of Kent, CT, John E. Fitzgerald of Sherborn, MA, Kathleen J. “Kit” Fitzgerald (Peter Gordon) of New York City, Edward M. Fitzgerald (Susan) of Chatham, MA, Andrew J. Fitzgerald (Nancy) of Medfield, MA, Frances F. Brian (Douglas) of Sherborn, MA, Daniel W. Fitzgerald (Maureen) of Needham, MA, Martha F. Huebner (Geoff) of Hopkinton, MA, William J. Fitzgerald (Maura) of Medfield, MA and Paul G. Fitzgerald (Kelli) of Needham, MA, 21 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her siblings, Helen Harrington of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, Eleanor Valencia of Easthampton, MA, and John Armata (Barbara) of Bloomfield, CT. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, John, and her brothers Theodore and Frank Armata.
Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street (Rt. 16), Wellesley on Tuesday, July 13 from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wellesley on Wednesday, July 14 at 10am. Interment will be private.
