Obituary

Joseph Patrick (Pat) Greenwell, aged 61, passed away in his sleep between the days of May 9th and May 11th, 2021 at his residence in Ventura. Pat was born at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Camp Pendleton, California to parents Paul Joseph and Joan Arlene Greenwell on March 17th, 1960. After graduating from Arcadia High School in 1978, he went on to Pasadena City College for a couple of years.

In the mid-1990’s, he moved to Ventura, California, where he would become a treasured member of the Bell family. He became a nanny to his 2nd cousins, Madeline, Carly, and Bradley Bell, and was a second father to them throughout their lives. He taught Madeline and Carly how to drive and gave them most of the “adulting” skills they have today. He was extremely proud of their accomplishments and the successful adults that they have become. He never let his loved ones go a day without letting them know how much he cared for them. Pat was a generous soul and loved helping those he loved. Some of the most special activities he shared with the kids included Disneyland trips, yearly X games events, breakfasts and dinners, sushi dates with Carly, and drives to Santa Monica to eat at Bubba Gumps.

As the kids grew older, Pat began working for Reid’s appliances in Santa Barbara and later Ventura. Here, he was able to meet many famous people in Montecito. He became well-known for his handyman skills and was a jack of all trades. He eventually started his own construction business, 21st Century Remodeling and Construction, which focused on remodeling homes throughout Ventura and Los Angeles counties. He was a brilliant designer and his portfolio included projects ranging from installing golden toilets in mansions in the Pacific Palisades, to restoring old homes prior to resale, to creating a beautiful and functional professional photography studio in Camarillo.

Pat had a special bond with Larry Bell of Ventura, Jill Bell of Ventura, Madeline Bell of Rochester New York, Carly Bell of Hilo Hawaii, and Bradley Bell of Ventura. Pat is survived by his father, Paul (Joe) Greenwell of Chula Vista; three sisters: Jody Ann of Arcadia, Julie Lynne of Chula Vista, and Joanna Dee Greenwell of Arcadia; and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William A. Greenwell of Cox Creek, Kentucky and Mary Katherine Greenwell of Brandon, Florida; his maternal grandparents, Paul and Helen Schlesinger of Altadena, California and Gwendolyn and Alvin (Mac) MacDonald of Santa Barbara, California; his mother Joan Arlene Greenwell of Arcadia, California; and his recently deceased step-mother Donna Mae Greenwell of Chula Vista, California.

Pat will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. The world is less joyful without him in it.
