CHICOPEE – Harry P. Bishop, Jr., 80, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, July 4, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born on July 2, 1941 in Kearny, New Jersey, a beloved son of the late Harry P. Bishop, Sr. and Germaine V. (Monat) Zannoni. He was raised and educated in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He later served in the United States Army National Guard and the United States Navy Reserves and retired in 1987 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer after 21 years of military service. He received numerous awards and medals including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Two Battle Stars, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Cross for Galantry, the Presidential Unit Citation, Three Air Force Unit Awards and Two “V” Devices for Valor. He later worked at the Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee for 14 years. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Rosalie R. (Roberts) Bishop who was Called Home on August 6, 2017; his dear brother, Rudolph E. Zannoni; and his dear nephew, Stevie R. Roberts. He leaves his beloved wife, Beryle Charlotte (Landon) Burnett-Bishop; his dear brother, Walter Bishop of South Hadley; his four dear nephews and two dear nieces, Owen L. Kessler and his wife, Darlene, of Clinton, TN, Marc S. Fagullar and his wife, Laurie, of Ogallala, NE, Pamela J. Halterman, Lisa M. Lesik and Todd W. Roberts, all of Saint Augustine, FL and Corey E. Fagullar and his wife, Rachel, of Chicopee; his nine cherished grandnephews and grandnieces, Nathan and Nicole Kessler, Marc, Jr., Jessica and Timothy Fagullar, Nick and Erica Halterman, Emily King and her husband, Nolan, and Abigail Fagullar; and his many dear extended family members and friends. His relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Prayer Service at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
