Alfred W. Goddard

Alfred W. Goddard passed away peacefully at the Spaulding Hospital of Cambridge. He was 74. Born and raised in Medford he was the son of the late Alfred J. and Doris Mae (Murray) Goddard. A Medford resident for virtually all of his life, Al graduated from Medford High School and then served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was decorated for valor with the Bronze Star Medal. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge as well as the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. Al enjoyed a 54 year career with Stop and Shop. He served many positions and worked at many locations during his years. In his later years in management, he oversaw training in several locations. Wherever he worked and no matter what his responsibilities where, he carried them out well and earned the admiration of his co-workers and customers.

Al was a devoted family man and always looked forward to time with his relatives and friends. He enjoyed his cars, loved jazz and played the drums. He enjoyed shooting, bicycling and kept up with the latest technological gadgetry for his home. He enjoyed trips to Maine, Florida and spending time in the sun. A fan of football and hockey, he also kept up with local events by listening to the radio and to his scanner. He was an avid student of genealogy and always loved spending time with his Dog Cara.

The beloved husband of Judy L. (Baker) Goddard, Al was a devoted father to Brian J. Goddard and his wife Lynn of Wakefield, Sharon Accolla and her husband Peter of N. Reading, the late Sherry Horgan and her surviving husband Michael of Everett. He was a loving grandfather of Leah, Lauren, Michael, Emma, and Taylor. The dear brother of Cindy Ellis and Pamela Reed, he leaves many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday, July 7 at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Tuesday 4 – 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Al’s name to the M.S.P.C.A - Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
