George S. Stepanik, 67, of Montville died at home on June 11, 2021. He was born on June 23, 1953 to Stephen and Olga (Kondratowicz) Stepanik. George lived most of his life on the same hill where he was born. He graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1972 where he excelled on their football team.
George's dad owned a trucking company in Montville so it was inevitable that he grew to love these big trucks. He obtained his CDL and worked at Schuster's Express in Colchester. He was a Teamster with Local 493 and was hired by UPS and worked for them until his retirement in 2019. One interesting thing that George learned during his UPS career was how to drive with his thumbs up to prevent them from being broken by a spinning steering wheel. His collection of UPS uniforms is unparalleled.
George enjoyed bicycle riding, hiking in the White mountains, visiting the Maine coast and camping with his wife Marianne, who he affectionately called, The Wife, as no other wife could compare. George was a loyal man like no other. He loved to just get in his truck and "go for a drive." Anyone who got in the car with him was in for an adventure. With George as the pilot, one could end up anywhere and it was always authentic and exciting.
George was devoted to his pets, Zachary, Seth and Bumpy, as well as all the local wildlife and stray cats. He cared for his family of wild turkeys, even chasing a hunter through the woods who was foolish enough to think he could shoot one of his turkeys.
From the day he met his wife he said he knew she was "the one." He passionately and with honesty loved his wife, his family and his friends. His death was completely unexpected and we will miss him dearly. His departure has left a void and life will not be the same without him. He could always make you laugh. It was as if his primary mission in life was to ensure that his family and friends were taken care of, and boy did he take care of us. He truly cared for those around him from the bottom of his heart and his generosity was limitless.
George was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marianne, his children Iain, Kyle and Carrie and his four granddaughters Kaylah, Adelle, Emma and Ayla. In addition, he is survived by Marianne's sister Sara Wilson who he dearly loved, her husband David, brother in laws James Avery and Steve Avery (Karen). George's cousin Ken Stepanik, his wife Kim and their three children. If anyone ever had the privilege of sitting with George and Ken while they were telling stories about growing up in Palmertown, would have laughed so much and were truly blessed. Also many nieces and nephews, his dearest friend John Heller and his sister Susan Rainville.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic on Friday, June 18 from 5:00 to 8:00pm A service will be held on Saturday, June 19, at 11:00am at Groton Bible Chapel, 66 Tollgate Road in Groton.
