John J. Grady, Jr., 84

John J. Grady, Jr., age 84, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence, RI.

Born in Taunton, MA on July 10, 1936, he was a loving son of the late John J., Sr. and Ruth I. (Baker) Grady.

John grew up and was educated in Taunton. From 1954–1958, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged with the rank of Boiler Technician Fireman.

A resident of Norton since 1963, Mr. Grady retired from the maintenance division of the former Mansfield Chocolate Factory and later worked parttime at the Manheim Auto Auction in North Dighton.

John loved spending quality time with family, tinkering around mechanically with cars and had the skills to fix anything mechanical. He proudly rebuilt a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle which remains and will be enjoyed by his family forever.

He is survived by his devoted children: John J. Grady, III of Norton and Lori A. Baker and her husband Don of Norton. He was the cherished grandfather of Amy Tedeman and her husband Stephen of Maine, Ruth Carriero of Fairhaven and the great grandfather of Zoe Tedeman, Mya Tedeman and Jordan Carriero. He was the dear brother of Marilyn Landrum of Virginia, Margaret Abney of Raynham, Helen Meunier of Taunton and the late William Grady and Audrey Rudy.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, June 3rd from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

Committal services, along with military honors, will be held on Friday, June 4th at 10:00 A.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery and arrive by 9:45 A.M.

Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, donations in John’s memory may be made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, Court Street Unit 2601, Boston, MA 02108.
