Carol A. Poussard
5/13/2021

Carol A. Poussard, 79, of Salem, passed away at her home on Thursday May 13, 2021. She was the devoted wife of Bertram H. Poussard with whom she shared 58 years of marriage until his death in February of this year.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Mary Ann (Beaupre) Demers. A graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Carol was a lifetime Salem resident. She met her husband Bertram at the academy and they were married in 1962.
Prior to having children, Carol was employed by the North Shore Gas Company. She was the book keeper for Bert and Paul’s Garage, a business co-owned by her husband for 30 years. After her children had grown, she worked for many years as a bookkeeper and tax preparer for Swiniuch & Associates in Salem, until her retirement.
Carol was a loving mother who devoted her time to her children’s schooling and activities. She volunteered at their school, St. Joseph Elementary, for many years and proudly attended sporting events and other activities on a regular basis. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword and sudoku puzzles. She spent many fun days at Palmer Cover Yacht Club in Salem, cruising on her and Bert’s boat, the Pou-Bear, and she loved spending time with family and friends. One of her greatest joys was being with her three grandchildren and watching them grow up. After Bert became disabled from a stroke, Carol became his primary caregiver and selflessly spent the next 28 years caring for her husband. Carol will be remembered as a smart, fun, classy and loving person whose strength and devotion were the heart of the family.
Carol is survived by her four children; David L. Poussard of Salem, Elaine M. DeMarco and husband Nicholas of Berkeley Heights, NJ, Cathy A. Lazdowski and husband Paul of Salem, Brian M.
