Obituary

Marshall A. Papineau, age 95, of Brockton, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on April 29, 2021. He was the loving husband for 69 years of Mary Christine (Crowley) Papineau. Marshall was born in Brockton, son of the late Albert and Virginia (Sexton) Papineau. Following his graduation from Brockton High School in 1944, he served in the US Navy during WWII.

Marshall worked at New England Telephone Company for 35 years as a Design Engineer, retiring in 1985. After retirement, he worked part-time for Total Property Services and Conley Funeral Home. Marshall was active in the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, where he served as an usher.

Marshall loved to travel, bringing his family on many memorable adventures when they were young. Second to his family, he was most proud of his little piece of Heaven in Chatham, where he served as President of the Hammond House Condominium Association for many years.

Marshall was the father of Susan Schaeffer of Burgaw, NC; Mark Papineau of Lancaster, PA; Mary Cormier of Brockton; Ellen McCabe and her husband Michael of Brockton; and Stephen Papineau and his wife Josephine of Brockton. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of John Papineau of North Easton and the late Virginia Gegg and Paul Papineau. He was the father-in-law of the late Glen Schaeffer and William Cormier.

Visitation will be held at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton, Monday, May 3, from 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Tuesday, May 4, at 9am for a funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are to be observed in the funeral home and church.
