Obituary

Margaret M. “Peggy” (Davenport) Lawson, age 94 of Brockton, died peacefully April 21, 2021. Peggy was the loving wife of the late Howard L. Lawson. Born and raised in Whitman, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Adeline (Palmieri) Davenport.

Peggy enjoyed working with her hands creating crafts, making pottery, baking cakes and cooking Swedish dishes. She also enjoyed decorating and bowling. For many years Peggy was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and was involved in Bible study and the Martha Guild.

She had an open door policy and enjoyed caring for others. As the mother of a special needs son, Peggy was dedicated to fighting for the rights of special needs students. She was one of the original advocates for Chapter 766, which served as a model for the first federal special education law.

Peggy was the mother of Stacey A. Lawson and Daniel H. Lawson both of Brockton; sister of Florence Sexton of East Bridgewater and the late Adeline Anderson, Charles Davenport and Donald Davenport and sister in law of David Lawson of Brockton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday, April 27, from 10-11am, followed by a funeral service at 11am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Masks must be worn and social distancing observed in the funeral home.
