WESTFIELD – Rene Anthony Mainville, 86, of Westfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, MA on May 19, 1934, a beloved son of the late Arthur and Rose Alma (Boutin) Mainville. He was raised and educated in Chicopee and had moved to Ludlow in 1962 where he lived for many years before moving to Westfield in 2008. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and attained the rank of Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed as an Independent Operator for Arnold’s Breads in Chicopee and previously worked at the former Hampden Brewery in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield and was a member of the Aldenville American Legion Post 337 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 in Chicopee. During his leisure time, he enjoyed watching his beloved Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Mary J. (Smith) Mainville who was Called Home on March 2, 2017. They were married on November 22, 1956 at Saint Leo the Great Church in San Jose, CA and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. He leaves his four loving children, Raymond A. Mainville of Westfield, Robert G. Mainville and his wife, Jennifer, of Panama City, FL, Sandra A. “Sandy” Prewett and her husband, Kit, of Southwick and Steven E. Mainville and his wife, Nancy, of Sarasota, FL; his eight cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mainville, Jessica Hobbs, Travis Mainville, Amber Lamontagne, Taylor Prewett, Jacob Prewett and his companion, Haley Parker, Riley Prewett and Samantha Mainville; his two cherished great grandchildren, Stella Joann Hobbs and Colton Hobbs; his dear sister, Diane Nawrocki of Wilbraham; his dear brother in law, Donald Smith and his wife, Ruth, of Agency, IA; his dear sister in law, Lorraine Mainville of Florida; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his many dear brothers and sisters. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 9 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
