Rajendra N. Popat, 65

Rajendra N. Popat, age 65, of Attleboro, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Geeta R. (Govani) Popat, to whom he was wed for thirty-eight years.

Born in Rajkot, India on December 10, 1955, he was a loving son of the late Nanalal and Sumanben (Kotecha) Popat.

Raj grew up in Rajkot, India where he was educated and earned both his bachelor and master’s degrees at P.D.M. College. Following his marriage to Geeta, he moved to the United States and had made his home in Attleboro for the past thirty-seven years.

A firm believer in education, Mr. Popat went on to receive his MBA at Bryant University in Rhode Island. He had worked as an accountant for State Street in Boston and also when the company operated under the name of Putnam Investments.

Raj’s family, whom he dearly loved and was so very proud of, as well as his close circle of friends were truly the focal point and treasure of his life. He was a man of profound faith and was affiliated with several Hindu Temples in the greater Boston area.

In his younger years, Raj enjoyed playing cricket and bicycle riding and later turned his passion for sports to being an avid New England sports fan. He will always be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor, his selflessness, but most of all for his love of family and as a fighter to the very end.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted and loving daughters: Dr Ami R. Popat-Jain and her husband Navin Jain of Norwood and Nijal R. Popat-Morales and her husband Roberto Morales of Framingham. He was the cherished grandfather of Ria P. Jain, who was the apple of his eye. He was the dear brother of Nayna Patel of Foxboro and the late Sudha Seta and Pravin Popat. He was the loving uncle of Harsha, Alka, Vijay, Shivali, Krishna, Jyoti and Meeta. In addition, the grand uncle of Nina, Julie, Samuel, Hallie, Olivia, Ethan, Bhoomika, Kirtan, and Soham.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the wake on Tuesday, March 30 from 6-8pm at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

A traditional Hindu service, followed by cremation, will be held privately.
