Joseph V. DiRocco, lifelong resident of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, March 17th. He was 90. Born and raised in Brighton, he was the cherished son of the late James V. and Angelina (Ferrullo) DiRocco.

Joseph enlisted into the United States Army in the winter of 1952, from Boston, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in the winter of 1954 from Fort Devon’s, MA. Joe loved to spend time with his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Joe's family was his pride and joy.

When Joe was not spending time with his family you could find him in his garden, he had a natural green thumb; all flowers and vegetables were constantly growing and blooming. He enjoyed going to Revere beach and spending the whole day earning the nickname of Umbrella Joe. He also enjoyed hanging with his buddies’ at the Meadow Glen Mall. Once the mall closed Joe and his buddies’ moved onto their new hang out Dunkin Donuts where they enjoyed a nice hot cup of coffee. An avid football fanatic, he enjoyed watching all the Patriot’s games on TV.

Joseph was the beloved husband of Carolyn (Zuzolo) DiRocco of 62 years. He was the devoted father of Joe DiRocco and his wife Jessica, Lisa Rudolph and her husband Mark, MaryBeth Tufts and her husband Peter and the late Karen DiRocco. He was the loving Papa of Nick Dunn, Summer Tufts and her loving companion Anthony Petrone, Livi Tufts, Cody Tufts and Gia DiRocco. He was the dear brother of Peter DiRocco and his late wife Bernie, Marie Morris and her late husband Buddy, James DiRocco and his wife Ruth and the late Theresa DiRocco. He was the best friend of George McMahon. He was the dedicated owner of his furry friend Mylo.
