Obituary

John C. Hogan, age 67 of Brockton, died Sunday March 14, 2021 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center after a brief illness. John was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Lawrence and Pauline (Bannister) Hogan. He was a 1971 graduate of Brockton High School and a lifelong resident of the city. For many years John worked as a driver and distributor for local food and snack companies.

John was a simple man, a good and honest man. He appreciated the small things, and didn’t take life’s worries too seriously. He had a great sense of humor and was a fantastic teller of jokes. His laugh was hearty and his smile, genuine and full.
He thoroughly enjoyed his morning newspaper while sipping his coffee (cream no sugar), crossword puzzles, a good long book, penny poker with friends, and was an avid lover of all things sports!!!

He was a painfully loyal fan of the Red Sox, and in 2004 when his first grandchild was born, he swore that she was the sole reason the 86 year long “curse of the Bambino” was broken...Convinced! Red Sox won the World Series and he became “Papa”. It was a great year for Johnny!!!

Anyone who spent any time with him knew he LOVED music. Always singing, humming or whistling a tune...and man could he sing; not too shabby on the piano either!

He sang all the old time tunes to his girls as they grew, and continued that tradition with his grandchildren; a precious memory they will all hold close and pass down for generations to come.

John took most pride and joy in spending time with his two daughters and four grandchildren. They meant absolutely everything to him, and he made that crystal clear in the life he shared with them. Their Beloved Dad and Papa will be deeply missed, “by the light of the silvery moon...”

John was the father of Kristine Hogan Snell of Brockton and Lisa Hogan Johnson of West Bridgewater. He also leaves four grandchildren Christopher Snell, III; Carlee Snell, Nevaeh Johnson and Lilah Johnson. John was the brother of Lawrence Hogan of Plymouth, Daniel Hogan of Raynham, Leo Hogan of Plymouth, Joseph Hogan of Castle Rock, Colorado, Mary Leavey of Middleboro and the late David Hogan and Thomas Hogan. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton on Wednesday March 24, 2021 from 4-7pm with a service at 6:30. Masks must be worn and social distancing observed. There is a limit of 50 people in the funeral home at any one time.
