Obituary

Ventura - 1935-2021
Richard L. Brunner, 85, of Ventura, Ca passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 12th, 2021. He lived his remaining time in the home that be bought for his family in 1966 after a short battle with Brain Cancer.
Richard was born in Wenatchee Washington on December 4th, 1935. The second child born to Leonard and Margaret Brunner.
Richard moved to Ventura, Ca in 1960 after receiving his Chemistry Degree from Washington State. He went on to receive his Master’s Degree in 1975 from the University of Southern California. His love of Math lead him to a 50 Year Career as a Teacher in both the High School and College levels touching the lives of countless students along the way. He taught Math at many schools around Ventura County including Fillmore Junior High, Thousand Oaks High, Channel Islands High, Rio Mesa High finishing his career at Ventura College.
He was a lifelong Catholic attending church at Sacred Heart for 57 years. He was very active in the church as an Eucharistic Minister, Usher, and the VP of Finance for the annual Fiesta.
He will be remembered for his cheerful, always positive attitude about life. His favorite expression “ YOUR LOOKING GOOD TODAY” will live on forever.
Richard met his wife of 59 Years Martha Madrid at a St Patrick’s Day party given by the Catholics Singles group of Our Lady of Assumption hosted by his future bride to be. Richard and Martha married in 1961 and went on to have 3 Children which has resulted in 3 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Leonard & Margaret Brunner, his sister Loraine Calhoun and brother-in-law Donald Calhoun. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Martha; 3 children: Mark, Mike, and Katie; three grandchildren: Miranda, Kassy and Peyton; and seven great grandchildren: Parker, Luke, Sebastian, Kaylee, Graham, Darren, and Samuel.
A Mass will be held for Richard on March 18th, 2021 at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Rd. Ventura Ca 93004 at 11am. Everyone is invited. If attending, please observe current Covid-19 regulations - masks must be worn and social distancing guidelines will be observed.
The Brunner family would like to express their deep appreciation to Livingston Memorial Hospice for their guidance and support during our Fathers last days. In lieu of flowers donations to Livingston Memorial Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
