Obituary

Nicole Anne Legault

April 12, 1972~February 25, 2021

Most obituaries are boring. As one ages, seeking the obituary section of the local newspaper is one of the first activities of the morning, and your grandparents may have admitted upon not reading their own name, they continued on with their day. Humans by nature are curious, and upon learning someone has passed at a young age, the cause of the person’s death piques interest.

Nicole Anne Legault was only 48 years old, born April 12, 1972, when she left this earth on February 25, 2021. Nicole passed away at the UMass Memorial Medical Care Center in Worcester, MA. Nicole suffered complications from multiple organ system failure. Her passing unexpectedly is a lesson for us to hit “pause” and mindfully examine our own lives. Life is a gift, and has an expiration date. If this end time was known to us, we might re-examine our behavior, choose a different path, consider alternate decisions.

Nicole’s independence was evident in her personality from a very young age. She was the oldest of three children, daughter of the late Robert J. Legault, and Ellen (O’Reilly) Legault of Brockton. Nicole leaves behind her broken hearted sister Katherine Legault, and her nieces Michaela, Jordan and nephew Devon. Nicole will be spending eternity with her only brother, Michael Legault, who passed in 2015.

Nicole had a passion for cooking, a craft she honed at her mother Ellen’s knee. Throughout Nicole’s life, she was employed at various restaurants, acquiring skills in many different cuisines. An animal lover, Nicole could often be found walking a neighbor’s dog in the town of Millis, MA, where she resided. Nicole should be remembered for her resilience to persevere. Nicole had a long game plan in her heart she only shared with her closest friends and family. If she did not reach her daily goals, she hit the reset button and began the next day anew. One cannot fault a person for the courage in attempting to achieve success and make amends. As we “know not the hour,” Nikki’s untimely passing may be her unsaid words and admonishment to us we all can do better.

Nicole had many aunts, uncles, and cousins who are mourning her absence in their lives going forward. Their common desire and hope for their Nicole was simple. For Nikki to feel their support and love. How you choose to honor Nicole’s life or acknowledge her days here on Planet Earth will be a personal choice. You need not look far to make a difference in someone’s life you are familiar with, or a strangers’. A kind word. A phone call to check in. Write a note of encouragement. Say you are sorry. Do not judge. Show the way. Hold a hand. Reconcile. Saying nothing often speaks volumes. Put yourself in someone else’s circumstances. Be the change. Nicole’s premature passing may ultimately have an impact in someone’s life in a way one could never imagine. Many who have lived longer lives have done far less.
