Dr. Carl Elliot Rosow

Dr. Carl Elliott Rosow, 74, of Wayland, died comfortably on January 21, 2021 following a courageous battle with cancer. Residing in Wayland for the past 39 years, he was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and San Mateo, California, the son of the late Dr. William Arthur Rosow and the late Emma (Minkoff) Rosow. He graduated from Oberlin College and then obtained his medical degree and his PhD in Pharmacology from the Boston University School of Medicine.
Dr. Rosow had a long and distinguished career as Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, where he taught pharmacology for over 30 years, and as an anesthesiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition to tirelessly caring for many of the most challenging surgical patients at MGH, he was deeply committed to education, and he won numerous teaching awards throughout his career.
Dr. Rosow was passionate about classical music, both as a violinist and as a patron of as many local concerts as possible. He generously supported the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Harvard Music Association, among numerous other arts organizations.
Dr. Carl Rosow is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Anna Laura (Strow) Rosow; his daughter, Dr. Laura K. Rosow and her husband, Danny Krause; his son, Dr. David E. Rosow; his sister, Professor Lois A. Rosow and her husband Seth Young; and his grandson, Sam Krause.
At the request of his family, all Memorial Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to Greenwood Music Camp and Doctors Without Borders.
