Obituary

Rose C. “Varto” Annaian, 91, of Arlington, MA passed away peacefully at Sawtelle Family Hospice House on February 8, 2021 with her family by her side.

Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, Rose was the daughter of the late Ohan and Sarah (Kazanjian) Annaian. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School, School of Nursing and Radiology and Northeastern University. She was a registered nurse Board Certified as an American Registry Radiologic Technologist and a member of the American Society of Registered Radiologic Technologists. She started her career at Lahey Clinic and later joined a team of orthopedic specialists practicing sports medicine in private practice for a number of years. Her entire work career and achievements were in the medical field and she worked in several hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics and other medical facilities receiving many awards and special recognition for her contributions. She retired in 1997 after serving as Nurse Supervisor at the Boston Evening Medical Center since 1985.

Rose will be sadly missed by her family and friends which include her cousins Edward Annaian and his wife Janet of Andover, Elizabeth Kochakian and her husband Charles of Andover, Godchild MaryAnn Afarian and her deceased husband Khatchik of Andover and Godson Robert C. Kochakian of North Andover. She is predeceased by her cousins John Annaian survived by his wife Sirvart of Methuen and Michael Annaian survived by his wife Maria of North Andover, her many nieces and nephews and very dear friends Gail Boroyan of Chelmsford and Ruth J. Taylor of Waltham. Known as “Auntie Rosie” by all the children of her extended family and friends, Rose never missed their birthdays, graduations and weddings. They brought great joy to her life as she did to theirs. Her 90th birthday celebration was one of many fond memories her family and friends will always cherish.

Rose was a world traveler and had many interesting stories to share. She was always eager to learn different cultures, studied history, toured museums and enjoyed ethnic cuisines. Her thirst for knowledge continued through her later years taking continuing education courses at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fl where she enjoyed spending her winters. She was an avid reader and was often called on for medical advice. Her favorite pass time in Florida was going to Deerfield Beach and enjoying the sun and ocean.

At the request of the family funeral service will be private. A memorial celebration of Rose’s life will be at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church of Merrimack Valley, 158 Main Street, North Andover, MA 01845.
