Obituary



John F. Montagano age 95 of Raynham formerly of Brockton, died February 5, 2021. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Baker) Montagano. He had been a resident of Raynham for the past thirty-five years.

John was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Pardo and Louise (Plate) Montagano. The family later moved to Marlboro where he was a member of the class of 1943 Marlboro High School. During WWII he joined the US Navy as a Sea Bee and was stationed in the Pacific Theatre.

Following the war, John returned to Brockton and owned a barber shop in Campello, was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service and was in charge of veteran affairs for State Rep. Joe Moakley. He retired a few years ago as the Veterans’ Agent for the Town of Raynham after serving for many years.

John was very active in veterans’ organizations. He was the past Commander of the Whitman Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 697, past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 119, past Commander of the Brockton American Legion Post 35, and a member of the Taunton DAV Chapter 57.

John will be remembered as a personable, outgoing and sentimental man who was always ready to help others. Most importantly, he enjoyed time spent with his family.

In addition to his wife Patricia, John is survived by his three children Kathleen Montagano of South Dartmouth, Robert Montagano of Naples, FL and Ann Montagano-Teixeira and her husband Joseph Teixeira of Acushnet. He was the grandfather of James and Elizabeth Teixeira, brother of the late Michael and Albert Montagano and Anna D’Amico and former husband of the late Eleanor (Falcioni) Montagano.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton on Friday Feb. 12, 2021 from 8:30 to 10am. The funeral service and burial will be private for family only. Following COVID guidelines, masks must be worn and social distancing observed in the funeral home with a maximum of 40 people in the funeral home at any one time.
