Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Arthur L. and Elizabeth M. (Bouchard) Poussard. A graduate of St. Joseph Academy, he was an outstanding full back and later halfback, as well as Co-Captain of the football team. It was at the academy that Bert met Carol and in 1962, he married his high school sweetheart. Bert served with the Air Force from 1960 to 1964. Together they ran the business for 30 years until 1994.
Bert was involved with all four of his children’s activities; coaching his son David’s midget football team, The Salem Eagles, watching his youngest son play football for Salem High, and traveling to numerous drum corps shows in support of his daughters’ membership in the Arbellas. Bert also loved his New England sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He was a longtime member of Palmer Cove Yacht Club in Salem, and was an avid boater and fisherman. He enjoyed relaxing with family and friends on his boat the ‘POU-BEAR’. Most of all, Bert will be remembered as a loving family man who was so proud of his children and grandchildren and dedicated to and thankful for his loving wife.
In addition to his Carol, he is survived by their four children; David Poussard of Salem, Elaine DeMarco and husband Nicholas of Berkeley Heights, NJ, Cathy Lazdowski and husband Paul of Salem, Brian Poussard and wife Stephanie of Salem, a well as his grandchildren, Michael, Nicole and Samantha DeMarco.
