Lois A. Wood (Morrison) of West Roxbury passed away at age 95 on January 26. Lois was the beloved wife of the late William M. Wood, Sr. and the devoted mother of William M. Wood, Jr., of Boston and Linda O’Connor and her husband Jack of West Roxbury. She was the loving sister of Peggy and her husband Eric Arsenault of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada and loving sister-in-law of Mary Morrison of Falmouth, Maine. Lois was a cherished family member of Anne O’Connor of Boston and Mary O’Connor of Milton. She was predeceased by siblings Leonard, Urban/Mike, Roderick, Ormond, Vernon, Bradford, Jerry, Joseph and Noreen. Lois is fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins in CA, ME and Canada.
While Lois was born in Rumford, ME, at the age of three her family moved back to beautiful Grand River, Prince Edward Island. Her grandfather had fallen ill and needed help to run his farm. As the second oldest in a loving family of eleven children, Lois took on many family responsibilities to assist her mother, Ella, and she loved her entire family deeply. She also fondly remembered the excellent education she received in a one-room school house and doing her homework with the light of a kerosene lamp. Lois also loved living right next door to beautiful St. Patrick’s Church, attending Mass, making treats for the church picnic and of course attending dances in the church hall.
After WWII, Lois had the opportunity to move to Boston with her cousin, Terry Shiete (MacDonald), and was delighted to join the Telephone Company as an operator. While attending the wedding of her close friend, Bea Wood (Praught), she met the love of her life, Bill Wood – also from PEI, who had just returned from serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the war. Despite having settled in Boston, Lois, her husband Bill and children, always looked forward to the scenic drive and eventual ferry trip back to PEI each summer. After Lois retired, she became a long-time volunteer with the Telephone Company Pioneers and her church, St. John Chrysostom. Lois was a beautiful person inside and out, always caring for others. She had a grateful and generous heart, and a steadfast faith that sustained her throughout her life.
