Maria A. Gatta, a longtime resident of Woburn passed away peacefully at her home, Thursday, January 14, 2021, following a period of declining health. She was 80. Maria was the beloved wife of the late Mario Gatta. Born and raised in Madeira, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Carlos and Celeste (Freitas) Pinto.

Maria emigrated to the United States in 1970 and settled here in Woburn. Her first job was at a laundry service in Stoneham until she began working for many years as a talented stitcher and seamstress with the Colony Shade Company of Woburn. She eventually retired from the Courtyard by Marriott where she worked in housekeeping for ten years so she could help care for her grandson on a more regular basis. Maria was very talented and loved gardening, cooking and making clothing for her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her trip to South Africa and a European Cruise. Family meant everything to Maria and she was happiest when she could help provide them with any of their needs. They were truly her greatest joy.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Grace Concepcion of Woburn and Jennifer Gatta and her husband Cesar Montesinos of Woburn. She was the loving grandmother of Enrique Concepcion and Conrad A. Montesinos-Gatta. Cherished sister of Celeste Jose and her late husband Manuel of Woburn, Rosilia Fernandes and her husband Leonardo of Woburn, Manuela Santos and her late husband Gabriel of Tewksbury, Cecilia Coucelos and her husband Belmiro of Woburn, John Pinto and his wife Grace of Woburn, the late Jose Pinto, Fatima DaSilva, and Mario Pinto. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service that will be conducted in the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, WEDNESDAY, January 20th, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. All attending must wear a face covering and adhere to strict social distancing protocols. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Maria's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
