Obituary

Gerald N. Dufresne, Jr. “Duke” (ret. BFD) age 80, passed away suddenly on January 10, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19 in Jensen Beach, FL. Gerry was born and raised in Brockton, the eldest son of the late Evelyn (Devine) and Gerald N. Dufresne, Sr. He was a 1958 graduate of Brockton High School, following graduation he enlisted in the US Army. In 1969 Gerry became a firefighter with the City of Brockton and was a member of the Brockton Firefighters Union, Local 144. He served his city until his retirement in 1996.

He was the loving husband of Nancy A. (Mathieu) Dufresne for 56 years. For many years Gerry and Nancy summered at Grindells in Dennisport, MA and wintered in Jensen Beach, FL where he was a proud member of the American Legion Post 126 and the Nettles Island Men’s Club.

Gerry loved relaxing at the beach or swinging a club at the golf course. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and bird watching. One of his greatest achievements came at age 75 when he shot his first and only hole in one.

A man of faith, Gerry was a communicant of both Christ the King Parish of Brockton and Saint Martin de Porres of Jensen Beach, Fl. Most of all he embraced life and loved his family dearly. He is survived by his wife Nancy and their three children Linda Frost and her husband Bob of Raynham, Brian Dufresne of Brockton, and Mary Neal and her husband John of Brockton. He was the beloved grandfather of Michael, Kelly, John Jr. and Adam. In addition, he is survived by his brothers Richard Dufresne of Florida and Friar James Dufresne of Illinois. Gerry was predeceased by his sister Cathy Bertoldo.

Gerry lived his life to the fullest, and as a result he leaves behind a large circle of family and friends who will miss him greatly.
