Gabriel F. Gouveia, 81

Gabriel F. Gouveia, age 81, of North Attleboro, formerly of Mansfield, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of the late Janice L. “Jane” (Ward) Gouveia, who died on January 6, 2003.
Born in Madeira, Portugal on February 16, 1939, he was a loving son of the late Jose “Joe” and Isabel (Freitas) Gouveia.
Gabe moved to the United States on September 30, 1946 and settled in Norton. He was a graduate of Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton and from 1958-1960, proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.
Mr. Gouveia began working as a teenager at Fernandes Supermarket and went onto manage several stores for the Fernandes family. He later worked at Donelan’s Supermarket in Wayland for over thirty years.
Gabe had made his home in North Attleboro for the past twenty-four years and formerly resided in Mansfield. He loved spending time with his adoring family, especially with his two sisters and his brother Noe. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing with his brother Noe and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his dear brothers and their families: Noe Gouveia and his wife Janet, Joseph Gouveia and his wife Mary. He was Uncle Gabe to many loving nieces and nephews and their families. He was the brother-in-law of Elizabeth Miller and Grace Martinez. He was also the brother of the late Augustine Gouveia, Mary Gouveia and Mary Jardim.
Burial, along with military honors, will take place privately at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield. Visiting hours are omitted and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
