Margaret E. (Coughlin) Hanrahan

HANRAHAN, Margaret E. (Coughlin), age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at home with family. Born in Somerville, daughter of the late Cornelius and Evelyn (Ellis) Coughlin. She was raised in Saint Matthew’s Parish in Dorchester and graduated from Monsignor Ryan High School. A long-time resident of Hyde Park where she raised her family. Margaret is predeceased by her husband Edward F. Hanrahan II, her son Edward F. Hanrahan III and grandson Aidan F. Hanrahan. Margaret worked for American Computer Group from 1973 until 1986. She started in the typing pool and was promoted to management through hard work and dedication. She was a member of “Executive Women’s International” where she held the office of Vice President. She then worked for AEW Capital Management from 1986 until her retirement in 2001. Margaret volunteered at the Boston Aid for the Blind in West Roxbury. She assisted clients with visual impairments to use computers. She was a member of the Maria Fo Mission group at Holy Name Parish where she sewed medical supplies to be sent to third world countries. She held the office of treasurer. She enjoyed travel, especially summers on Cape Cod with family. Survived by her remaining children Ann Marie Gillespie and her husband Daniel of Roslindale, James Hanrahan of Plymouth, Diane Hanrahan-Torpey and her husband Brian of West Roxbury, Kathleen Lennon and her husband Joseph of Needham and daughter-in-law Karen Gauthier of North Attleboro. She was a devoted grandmother “Nanny” to Margaret Mieczkowski, Bridget Mitre, Elizabeth Gillespie, Patrick, James and Kathleen Torpey, Shane Hanrahan, Megan, Laura and Kaitlin Lennon and great-grandmother “GG” to Devney, Keeleigh, Ryan and Colin. She also leaves several Ellis and Coughlin cousins, Clair Anderson, Beth Ann Riley, Ann Doherty and the recently deceased Patricia Morgan, all of whom she maintained a 75-year close friendship. At the request of the family, all services will be private.
