Christos G. Psilakis

SPRINGFIELD - Christos G. Psilakis, 92, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in West Springfield on October 9, 1928, a beloved son of the late George and Helen (Kastrinakis) Psilakis. He was raised and educated in Greece and returned to the United States in 1947 where he settled in Springfield. He was employed for many years as a machinist at Package Machinery in East Longmeadow. He was a lifelong active communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield where he served on the Parish Council, the Bingo Committee and the Glendi Committee. He was also a member of the Over 60 Club of the Cathedral. He also was a member and former treasurer of the Cretan Club in Springfield. He was a humble, quiet, gentle, hard-working man who was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Helen C. "Eleni" (Koutroumpa) Psilakis. They were married on September 7, 1958 in Crete, Greece and were blessed with over 62 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving sons, George Psilakis and his wife, Julie, of Franklin and Emmanuel "Mano" Psilakis and his wife, Katherine, of New Seabury; his five cherished grandchildren, Alexander G. Psilakis, Sophia M. Psilakis, Evangelos G. Psilakis, Christos Psilakis and Andrew T. Psilakis; his two dear brothers, Andrew Psilakis and his wife, Doreen, of Longmeadow and Nicholas Stavarakis and his wife, Helen, of Springfield; his two dear brothers-in-law, Michali Koutroumpas and his wife, Natalia, of Chania, Crete, Greece and James Sophinos of Longmeadow; his four dear sisters-in-law, Argiro Koutroumpas, Popi Proiou and her husband, Evangelos, Filitsa Androulakis and her husband, Georgios, and Sophia Farandakis and her husband, Georgios, all of Chania, Crete, Greece; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of his family in the United States and Greece. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Emmanuel Psilakis; and his dear sister, Argiroula "Lula" Sophios. Christos will Lie in Repose on Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. which will be followed by a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104 or to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
