Obituary

Edith J. Massaro
1922 - 2020

On the morning of October 20, 2020 Edith (nee Aida Celeste Paolucci), age 98, of Needham, MA passed peacefully in her sleep and is now at eternal rest.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband Ferdinand, her parents Joseph and Julia Paolucci, her brother Benjamin, and her sister Joanna (Penny). She is survived by her sister Sandra Feuda, three children and their spouses Bob (Jeff Fairbanks), Arlene DePhillippo (Skip Daniels), and Rick (Joan). Edith was also extremely blessed to have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Edith was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and attended John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School. After WW II she married her beloved husband and settled down to tirelessly raise her family while also working as a sales manager for Gimbel Brothers department store and as cashier for Lankenau Hospital; later in life she also lovingly and painstakingly cared for aging parents.

Edith was intelligent, meticulous, strong, witty, soft-spoken, religious, generous, always thinking of the other person and not herself, with kindness to everyone she touched. She never ate or drank anything without prodding all in her presence to partake with her.

Edith loved all music but it was only fitting that she most loved the opera because her parents named her “Aida” honoring the Giuseppe Verdi protagonist.

All who knew and loved Edith are grieving dearly now but are also comforted knowing that she lived an extremely long and prosperous life, and that she now rests in peace.

Relatives and friends may attend her visitation on Thursday, October 29, 2020, from 10:00-10:45am at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., Needham followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am in St. Joseph's Church, 1382 Highland Ave., Needham. Please adhere to Covid -19 guidelines including mask wearing.

Interment will occur Monday, November 2, 2020, at 1:00pm at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 S. Sproul Rd., Springfield, PA 19064. Attendees will proceed to the chapel on the main cemetery road and assemble there followed by group procession to the gravesite.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Edith's name may be made to St. Anthony’s Bread for the Poor, Boston, MA, www.stanthonyshrine.org.

A celebration of Edith's life will be held in the Philadelphia area as soon as the coronavirus pandemic subsides.
