Phyllis A. "Phyl" (Chagnon) Dewberry

CHICOPEE – Phyllis A. “Phyl” (Chagnon) Dewberry, 81, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on December 31, 1938, a beloved daughter of the late Philip J. and Marian (Griffin) Chagnon. She was raised in Holyoke and later moved to Chicopee with her family in 1951. She graduated from Chicopee High School and had lived in Fairview the remainder of her life. She furthered her education and received an Associate’s Degree in Business from Holyoke Community College in 1986. She was last employed as an Assistant Manager at Blue Cross and Blue Shield on Birnie Avenue in Springfield and previously worked in the billing department at the former Riverbend Medical Group in Chicopee. She was a communicant of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee where she was a longtime member of the Women’s Guild. She was a longtime volunteer at Mont Marie Healthcare in Holyoke. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, George E. “Eddie” Dewberry who was Called Home on June 18, 2017. They were married on June 27, 1959 at the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving children, Robin E. Dewberry of Chicopee and Michael J. Dewberry and his wife, Wendy, of Springfield; her five cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Feder and her partner, Rob Goggins, Eric Feder, Colin Feder and his partner, Jessica Pinto, and Evieanna and Autumn Dewberry; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Aspen and Xavier Goggins and Stella and Silas Feder; her dear brother, Thomas Chagnon and his wife, Theresa, of Chicopee; her two dear sisters-in-law, Constance Chagnon of Chicopee and Dolores Steven of Indiana; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her dear brother, Kenneth J. “Buddy” Chagnon who was Called Home on March 2, 2019. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday morning November 7, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Celebration Service at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
