John C. "Jack" Roche
9/22/2020

John “Jack” Charles Roche of Walpole, 82, passed away on September 22, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hyde Park, Jack graduated from Hyde Park High School and established a successful real estate development company. He moved to Westwood in 1974 to raise his family, and in 1996, he settled in Walpole.

Since his childhood, Jack never shied away from hard work, and he always embraced a strong work ethic. He used his success in the real estate field to help others; he was a supporter of many charities and was known for always lending a hand to those in need. One project he was particularly proud of was his development of independent living opportunities for adults with Intellectual Disabilities/Developmental Disabilities. He was a devout Catholic and an active member of the St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Norwood.

Jack had a love of reading, completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and gardening. Those who knew him would attest to his larger-than-life personality. A great wit, he enjoyed making others laugh with his humorous comments and anecdotes. Health and fitness were a big part of his life, and his friends at L.A. Fitness can confirm that he never missed a day at the gym. His daily gym routine allowed him to discuss some of his favorite things: Boston sports, current events, and his grandkids’ latest accomplishments.

He was the son of James and Phyllis (Roughsedge) Roche and the brother of the late James, Joseph, Jane, and Jerome. He was also the brother of Jeffrey of Needham, Julianne of Hyde Park, Joyce Marlow of Connecticut, Jay of North Carolina, and Judy Bloyer of North Carolina. Jack was the loving father to Christopher Roche and his wife Maria of Brookline, and Kerry (Roche) Ferguson and her husband Christopher of Walpole. He was a devoted grandfather to Nicholas, Jamie, Jack, Jessica, Owen and Connor. He also leaves behind his longtime companion Sherry Lavalle.
