Gerald R. "Jerry" Bergeron

CHICOPEE – Gerald R. “Jerry” Bergeron, 94, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, September 7, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Canaan, Vermont on October 10, 1925, a beloved son of the late Alfred and Donalda (Loiselle) Bergeron. He lived in Canaan, Vermont and later in Montreal, Canada and Colebrook, New Hampshire. He also lived in Holyoke, Chicopee and South Hadley before returning to Chicopee. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed as a machinist for over 30 years at Moore Drop Forge and later worked at Danaher Tool Company, both in Springfield. During his leisure time, he enjoyed shooting pool and played often at the South Hadley and Chicopee Senior Centers. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Una I. (Choiniere) Bergeron who was Called Home on March 13, 1982. They were married on August 7, 1947 in Palmer and were blessed with over 34 years of happiness together. He leaves his six loving children, Nancy Beyer and her husband, Ken, of Jacksonville, FL, Susanne Couture and her husband, Francis, Donna Johnson and Bruce Bergeron and his wife, Janice, all of Chicopee, Lawrence Bergeron and his wife, Lynne, of Ludlow and Richard Bergeron and his spouse, Billy-Joe, of Chicopee; his 11 cherished grandchildren, 15 cherished great-grandchildren and three cherished great-great-grandchildren whom he was very proud of; his two dear sisters, Suzanne DuBuc and Lily Legare, both of Canada; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his loving son, Robert “Big Bob” Bergeron who was Called Home on May 9, 2013; his five dear brothers, Emile, Lawrence, Alfred, Maurice and Gaitan “Jumbo” Bergeron; and his three dear sisters, Bibianne Bergeron, Juliette Bergeron and Beatrice Sicard. His family will receive friends on Monday, September 14, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and funeral home capacity is limited due to state regulations). The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Prayer Service at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01020.
