Michele D. Alex, 70

1950 - 2020

Simpsonville, SC — Michele Dawn Smith Alex, 70, died peacefully at home, Tuesday, June 30, in the care of her family and hospice after succumbing to cancer. She was the wife of Samuel Kosta Alex, who predeceased her last year. Michele was born March 20, 1950 in Lincoln, Maine, and raised in Mattawamkeag by parents Elmer Vernon Smith and Doris Mae Jacobs Smith. She was in the last graduating class of Mattawamkeag High School 1969. She was crowned Miss Greater Lincoln and earned scholarship for best talent in the Miss Maine pageant. She graduated the University of Maine, Orono, in 1973 with a B.A. in Education and recently retired as Vice President of Investments with Wells Fargo Advisors after 39 years in the brokerage business.
Michele and Sam loved traveling, especially to Southwest Harbor, Maine, and to Aruba. She had no children, but indulged her two cats. Michele loved to keep a flower garden, was larger than life, a true and loyal friend, full of fun and adventure. She enjoyed life to the fullest. For many years, she and Sam lived in Massachusetts, then moved for warmer climes to Springhill, Florida. They had recently retired to Simpsonville. In retirement she had been planning a trip with girlfriends to Budapest and had made a memorable trip to Paris with her niece. She was a woman of faith, home in the Simpsonville United Methodist Church.
She leaves and will be greatly missed by brother Louis Alfred Smith of Dixmont, ME; niece Suzanne Marie Smith AuClair of Rockwood, ME; nephews Vernon Louis Smith of Stetson, ME and Mark Edward Smith of Gulfport, MS; extended family and many friends.

She will be encrypted alongside her beloved Sam at St. John’s Cemetery and Mausoleum in Worcester, MA. In this time of the C-19 virus pandemic, a private service will be held there at a later date.
