Roy Lee Whitson, 92, of Anderson died on Thursday, June 25, 2020, in Anderson.
Roy was born April 13, 1928, in Winona, Illinois to Rufus and Fanny (Beeson) Whitson. In his youth, he lived in Geff and Fairfield, Illinois as well as Waynesville, Missouri.
Roy served in the United States Navy for four years beginning in 1946 aboard the USS Missouri and USS Dayton. He then served in the United States Army for three years.
Roy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley (Johnson) Whitson of Fairfield, Illinois; they married on July 25, 1953, in Carmi, Illinois. They moved from Fairfield to Anderson in September 1957 and were members of Redeemer Baptist Church of Anderson.
Roy "Lee" was a mechanic at Wonder Bread for 30 years. He retired in December 1989. After his retirement from Wonder Bread, he worked at Mac's Auto Body until 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughter, Kathy (Steve) Tuttle of Anderson; son, Terry Whitson of Indianapolis, Grandson, Kenny (Megan) Tuttle of Noblesville; step-grandchildren, Troy (Julia) Tuttle of Las Vegas and Chrissy (Jason) Swoveland of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis Chambliss of Gibson City, Illinois.
The family will have private services with burial at Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson. Rev. Brad Storm will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to a charity.
