Donald A. Gauthier, 84, of Danvers, passed away at his home with his loving wife by his side on Friday, June 19, 2020 following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s and is now home with the Lord. He was the devoted husband of Wilma A. (Normand) Gauthier with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Salem and raised in Salem and Danvers, he was the son of the late J. Omer and Aurore (Poussard) Gauthier. A graduate of Holten High School, Donald was employed by General Electric Aircraft Division for 36 years. He began as a machinist and worked his way up until he retired in 1991 as a planner. He enjoyed time with his wife and family and built their home from the ground up. He was a jack of all trades and delved headlong into many hobbies. He enjoyed his many grandchildren and took pride in their many accomplishments.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children, Kathryn M. Gauthier and her partner Christopher Lear of Danvers, Dr. Thomas D. Gauthier and his wife Dr. Carmen Valdez Gauthier of Lakeland, FL, Dr. Michael N. Gauthier and his wife Dr. Naomi Gauthier of York ME, Carlene A. Abbatessa and her husband Mark Abbatessa of N Reading and Darren P. Gauthier and his wife Denise Gauthier of Georgetown. He also leaves his brother, Robert Gauthier of Danvers, and sisters Dolores Ercha of Nashua, NH and Gloria Hinton of Manchester, NH as well as nine grandchildren, Victoria, Benjamin, Timothy, Zachary, Derek, and DeAnna Gauthier, Samantha, Jacob, and Luke Abbatessa, and great-grandson Teddy Wilson. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Juliette and Rita and brothers Omer “Pete” and Normand.
