Fernando Pereira, age 84, of Norton, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 18, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Lisette (Viera) Pereira, to whom he was wed for fifty-one years at the time of her death on April 13, 2010.

Born in Sao Miguel, Portugal on April 10, 1936, he was a loving son of the late Emanuel “Manny” and Eireen Pereira.

Fernando grew up and was educated in Portugal, where he also served as a member of the Merchant Marines. At age twenty-one, he and his late wife Lisette moved to the United States, first settling in Fall River, later moving to California and finally to Norton, a town he deeply loved and throughout the years volunteered his assistance in many town projects.

From his humble beginnings in Portugal, Mr. Pereira was an extremely hard worker and exceptional provider to his adoring family. For fifty plus years, he was very proud to be a member of the Laborer’s Union.

A resident of Norton for the past fifty years, Fernando was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton. He loved times spent with his treasured family, especially his grandchildren and pristinely maintaining his yard.

He is survived by his devoted children: Mario Pereira of Rhode Island, John Pereira and his wife Laura of Maine, Leanna Parker and her husband Andrew of Attleboro and the late Michael Pereira. He was the cherished grandfather of Thomas, Eric, Rachel, Victoria, Niki, Daniel, Shelby, Nylan, Dilan and Emma, and is also survived by his loving great grandchildren. Fernando was pre-deceased by his dear brother and sister.

His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27th at 1:00 P.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 26th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St, (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.

In lieu of flowers, Fernando’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or an animal shelter of one’s choice
