Charles Joseph Gebron

PALM BAY, FL – Charles Joseph Gebron, 93, of Palm Bay, Florida and a long time resident of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, was Called Safely Home on February 20, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Melbourne Terrace in Melbourne Florida. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 11, 1926 the beloved youngest child of the late Peter Gebron and Maryann (Kadra) Gebron. He was raised in Worcester and served his country in World War II in the United States Navy on an LST. Charles earned his deaconate at Our Lady of the Cedars of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church in Miami, Florida. He served as Deacon there and at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was instrumental in forming the National Apostolate of Maronites in the 1970’s. He was the first President of that organization and later received its highest award, the Masabki Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 293, the Knights of Columbus and a delegate to the National Convention of Italian-American Veterans, even though he was not Italian. Charles took pride in his family and raised five boys in Longmeadow, MA. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn (Clark) Gebron; and his sons, Marc, Matthew and Martin. His siblings, Edna (Gebron) Casey, Alfred, George, and Ruth also predeceased him. He leaves his beloved Judith and his sons, Maron, Michael and Michael’s wife, Janis, and Roger Welch and his fiancée, Terry. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Miranda and Cassandra Gebron and Sara, Tyler and Devon Welch; as well as great-grandchildren, Dominic and Korra Gebron. His friends and relatives are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield MA 01108, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11a.m. His burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
