GRANBY ~ Rena G. (Chagnon) Cote, 86, of Granby and a former longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, January 25, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at the Holyoke Healthcare Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on March 31, 1933, a beloved daughter of the late Charles and Reina (Demers) Chagnon. She was raised in Aldenville, graduated from Chicopee High School in 1950 and had lived in Aldenville for most of her life before moving to Granby in 2002. She was employed as a telephone operator for 20 years at the former New England Telephone, which later became AT&T and later Verizon. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was a member of the Western Massachusetts Yacht Club in South Hadley and the NCO Club at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who showered her family with her love and affection that was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her five loving children, Linda M. Breen of Vero Beach, FL, David W. Cote and his wife, Carole, of Granby, Steven P. Cote of Denver, CO, Rena M. Geoffroy of Agawam and Sharon A. Smith and her husband, Ronald, of Somers, CT; her loving daughter-in-law, Lana Cote of Chicopee; her 12 cherished grandchildren; her 16 cherished great-grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her loving son, Lionel R. Cote, Jr.; her two loving sons-in-law, Neil Breen and Kenneth Geoffroy; her four brothers, Norman, Edgar, Arthur and Roland Chagnon; and her two sisters, Jeannette Norvell and Estelle Hoffman. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her funeral services and burial are private for her family.
