Louis DiMambro, age 85, beloved husband of the late Mary (Russo) DiMambro and a life long resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 8, 2019, following a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease, at the Life Care Center of Acton surrounded by his loving family. Born in Woburn, He was the son of the late Luigi and Mary DiMambro of North Woburn.

He is survived by his two children; his daughter Marianne Kearney and her husband Tom of Berlin, and his son Louis of Woburn, and three grandchildren; Tom, Taylor and Catherine Kearney, all of Berlin. He was the brother of the late Antoinette Russis, Ralph, Edmund, Frank, Benedict, Emilio, and Angelo DiMambro. Louie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

As a young man, Louie proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War period. Louie’s decades long association with Massachusetts Local 22, placed him on new construction and reconstruction projects all over Massachusetts including; the original Woburn District Courthouse, The Lutheran Church, The 1988 construction project of the entire second story of the Burlington Mall, Spaulding Rehab, Mass General Hospital, Wellesley College, and numerous banks, schools, and hospitals throughout the state.
A member of the St. Anthony Club North Woburn, he enjoyed attending the St. Anthony Festival every June, and its many social events. He was a gifted craftsman and tinkerer as are many men of his generation.

Good old fashioned hard work made him the man that he was. Louie, with tools in hand and projects in the works, was always happy to help relatives and friends with whatever was needed. He made a hobby of creating, building, fixing, and repairing anything and everything. He loved everyone’s company and socializing yet also enjoyed the quiet moments while fishing. Bass and trout fishing were the favorites, whether it be long drives to The Quabbin or just throwing a line at a local Pond.

With a deep love of country music, he enjoyed being a member of the Country Fever Band alongside his late brother Milio and his nephews. Throughout his life, he found comfort and enjoyment playing music with his collection of guitars and accordions. With an amazing memorized library of music, he could play seamlessly for hours, switching instruments during his play sessions. As arthritis hindered his ability to press the guitar strings, he realized he could still press the buttons on the accordion. So, the music continued. He even had his accordion at the nursing home where the staff would ask him to play music, so all the residents could enjoy.

A proud supporter of all veterans, Louie would always respectfully acknowledge a veteran in passing, shake a hand, give a wave or thumbs up, or encouraging word..whether at stores, restaurants, hospitals, and thank them for ‘their` service. He made every effort to attend Woburn’s Veteran events and parades to share support and show respect. While residing in the nursing home this past year, Louie wore daily patriotic baseball caps. The resident’s, visitors, and the employees would recognize his caps and kindly stop to say ‘Hello`, chat about the Air Force, share their service stories, or to thank him for ‘his` service...he would be so happy in those moments. Happy that people were talking, sharing, and being social with him. As everyone who knew and loved him knows, he was a very social guy.

His unwavering love and devotion to Mary, his wife of 55 years, was admired by all who knew him. When she passed away in 2010, he indeed lost the love of his life and his best friend. May they be happy and at peace together again.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Saturday, October 12th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
