Arthur J. Pearsall, Jr., of Winthrop, departed this world on August 16, 2019 in the presence of loving family and the compassionate medical caregivers of Massachusetts General Hospital after a long and courageous struggle with chronic respiratory illness. He was 73 years old.
Born in Winthrop, he was the eldest son of the late Arthur J. and Agnes E. (Chisholm) Pearsall. As a child of a military family, Arthur grew up living in U.S. occupied Japan and Germany, and on military bases in Virginia and New York before returning home to Winthrop and graduating from Winthrop High School.
A military veteran, Arthur voluntarily joined the U.S. Army after high school and served his country honorably from 1964-1967 during the time of the Vietnam War.
Arthur was employed as a cab driver in the Boston area for many years where he honed his craft and learned to effortlessly navigate the streets of Metropolitan Boston in the era before GPS technology and ride-sharing services like Uber. A natural storyteller with an excellent memory and the gift for gab, he was able to meaningfully converse and connect with his passengers on a diverse range of topics from popular culture and current events to more specialized subjects like the Theatre of the Absurd or Cosmology.
A longtime resident of Winthrop, Arthur enjoyed living by the ocean and following sports of all kinds and was a loyal team fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins.
Arthur is survived by his brother John Pearsall and his wife Mary Ellen Miller of Belchertown, Massachusetts, his brother Peter Pearsall and his wife Kathy of Derry, New Hampshire, nephews Robert, Sean and Patrick Pearsall, and many cousins and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
