Buovo Di Benedetto passed away peacefully at the Melrose - Wakefield Hospital on Monday. He was 90. Born and raised in Portici, Italy, near Naples, He was the son of the late Lorenzo and Carmela (Roscigno) Di Benedetto. As a young man he came to the United States with his family and lived in Boston’s North End before Settling in Malden. Buovo or “Bruno” as he was known to many, was a hard-working man. Before coming to the United States he owned and operated the Super Cinema in Siano, Italy for many years, a venue which is still fondly remembered by many people of that town. Here, Buovo enjoyed a long career in construction with Local 151 of Cambridge. Always trying to make a better life for his family, he worked extra jobs in the North End. He was an expert painter, worked at the famed Bay State Lobster Co., and assisted at the land mark bakeries of Mike’s and Modern Pastry. Throughout his life he was a well-known neighbor and a good friend to many, especially in the North End. One of seventeen children, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden. Buovo also enjoyed gardening and wine making, always happy to share the fruits of his labor. Amidst all his work and activity, staying close to his large extended family and many friends was deeply important to him. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
