CHICOPEE ~ Helena M. “Lena” (Corcoran) Allard, 83, of the Fairview section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Friday, April 12, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life from her beloved home on Pendleton Avenue, now the Harmony House of Western Massachusetts, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and wonderful caregivers. She was born in Cootes Pond, Saint Mary’s, Province of Newfoundland, Canada on November 18, 1935, a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Bowen) Corcoran. She was raised in Newfoundland and became a naturalized citizen of the United States on January 12, 1962. Her late husband, Clem, was a career Air Force veteran whose last duty assignment in 1971 was at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. Clem and Lena made their home on Pendleton Avenue in Chicopee for many years of which is now the Harmony House of Western Massachusetts, a respite home offering round the clock care for people that are in the final stages of life. She was a 50 year volunteer of the American Red Cross Blood Drive and was a recipient of their Hometown Hero Award. She was also a volunteer for many years for the Visiting Nurse Association. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she was a longtime member of the former Saint Anne Senior Choir and the Saint Anne Sodality Guild. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Clement G. “Clem” Allard who was Called Home on April 15, 2012. They were married at Saint John the Baptist Church in Saint John’s, Newfoundland, Canada on December 20, 1954 and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving children, Paul M. Allard and his partner, Kathy Rogers, Peggy A. Breault and her partner, Alan Ogoley, and Sandra J. Clayton, all of Chicopee; her dear former son-in-law, Michael L. Breault of Chicopee; her four cherished grandchildren, Cassandra Allard, Cayla Daniele and her husband, Nick, Sara Breault Rege and her husband, Ryan and Nathaniel Clayton and his wife, Karen; her four cherished great-grandchildren, William Ducharme, Irielle Ducharme, Declan Rege and Elizabeth Clayton; her two dear sisters-in-law, Noella Salas and her husband, Edward of Georgia and Jeanne Allard of California; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Allard and Corcoran families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her cherished grandson, Tyler Michael Breault who was Called Home on October 16, 2015 and her nine dear brothers and sisters. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, April 17, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private at the convenience of her family at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
