Obituary

Betty-May (Houdlette) Falton,a resident of Andover and beloved wife of the late Allen A. Falton, passed away at her home in Andover on Sunday morning, March 24, 2019. She was 93 years old.

Betty was born in Meriden, Connecticut, spending summers engaged in happy outdoor pursuits with family in Dresden, Maine. After studying art in Boston and working in the fashion industry, Betty met her beloved husband Allen in the Civilian Air Patrol. The newlyweds traveled north in their Airstream trailer and got hooked on the wild country of Northern New Hampshire, where Betty began her life's work as proprietress of The Glen in Pittsburg. Despite Allen's premature death, she built The Glen into a thriving rustic sporting resort with help from her very special parents, the late John C. and Bertha (Getchell) Houdlette. As a leader in her region's hospitality profession and many organizations throughout her career, she was very much respected among her peers. Betty was a gracious and lively hostess up until the very end. For more than fifty years she made a difference to generations of fishermen, hunters, bird-watchers and families. Betty's many interests including snowmobiling, hiking, boating, needlepoint and cooking. She has been "auntie" to countless children over the years, endearing herself to all who knew her; she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sister; Jean and husband Lewis Turco of Dresden, Maine; nephews Peter Ahern of Lincroft, New Jersey; Steven Disbrow of Meriden, Connecticut; Chris Turco of Kingston, New York; niece Melora Norman of Belfast, Maine, and her doting great-nieces, along with many friends. She was predeceased by sisters Nathalie Ahern and Ann Disbrow.

Her Funeral Service will be celebrated in the New England Bible Church, 60 Chandler Road, Andover on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 1 pm. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend.
