Viola M. (Pirog) Sokol

CHICOPEE ~ Viola M. “Vie” (Pirog) Sokol, 92, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, March 8, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at her home in Chicopee surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born at home in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on February 25, 1927, a beloved daughter of the late John J. and Frances (Smierz) Pirog and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Willimansett and a member of the Saint Anthony Rosary Sodality. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 353 in Willimansett. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Edward J. Sokol who was Called Home on May 11, 2011. She leaves her two loving sons, Edward J. Sokol, Jr. and his wife, Meredith, of Sarasota, FL and John E. Sokol and his wife, Julie, of Seattle, WA; her four cherished grandchildren, Courtney Oliveira and her husband, Jay, Jonathan Sokol, Kimberly Sokol and Alec Sokol; her two cherished great-grandsons, Nathan and Ian Oliveira; her sister, Josephine Robarge of Chicopee; and her many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Sokol and Pirog families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her brother, Rudolph Pirog; and her four sisters, Adele Gorski, Mary Prawlucki, Julie Pirog and Stella Laplante. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 18, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
