Brendan Daniel "Alaska" Conroy

BELCHERTOWN ~ Brendan Daniel “Alaska” Conroy, 18, of Belchertown, was Called Home on Tuesday morning, March 5, 2019 as a result of a tragic car accident in Granby. Brendan was born in Anchorage, Alaska on January 12, 2001, a beloved son of Joseph E. and Kathleen M. (Ranck) Conroy. He was raised in Anchorage and settled in Belchertown at the start of his sophomore year in high school in 2016. Brendan was scheduled to graduate with the class of 2019 from Belchertown High School where he was a member of their Varsity Hockey Team. Brendan was proud of his Irish heritage and was looking forward to Saint Patrick’s Day. An avid outdoorsman, Brendan loved going to the beach with his friends and enjoyed fishing, skiing, playing hockey and having fun. He was a bright young man who touched many people during his short life. He attended the Marine Military Academy in Texas and volunteered his time through community service projects with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8428 in Belchertown. In addition to his beloved parents, he leaves his loving grandmother, Elinor M. (Paul) Ranck of Chicopee; his loving grandfather, Richard D. Conroy, Jr. of Clinton; his loving aunts and uncles, Lisa Ranck Cunningham, who was also his godmother, and her husband, David, of Belchertown, Robert E. Ranck, Jr. of Chicopee, Edward C. Ranck and his wife, Robin, of Wilbraham and Douglas P. Ranck and his wife, Gina, of Chicopee; his five cherished cousins, Olivia and Zachary Ranck and Madison, Colby and Cameron Ranck; his cherished godfather and cousin, Brian Conroy of Whitinsville; his cherished cousins, Megan and Molly Conroy; his cherished granduncle and grandaunt, Michael and Ann Conroy of Clinton; his cherished granduncle and grandaunt, Lawrence and Dorothy Conroy; his cherished cousins, Kevin Conroy, Alison Jalbert, Erin Parker, Larry Conroy, Karen Smith, Kathleen Gunter, Matt Wetherell and Amy Wetherell; and his many dear grandaunts, granduncles, numerous cousins and countless friends in Belchertown, Alaska, Kentucky and Hawaii. He was predeceased by his beloved grandfather, Robert E. Ranck who was Called Home on January 26, 2017; his beloved grandmother, Doris I. (Parker) Conroy who was Called Home on March 14, 2004; and his loving aunt, Laura A. Ranck who was Called Home in May of 1962. Brendan will also be deeply missed by his “Second Family” in the Belchertown community, his high school friends and his hockey team and their families. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:00 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 11, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. Because of Brendan’s love of the outdoors and the Quabbin Reservoir, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Friends of the Quabbin, Inc., 485 Ware Road, Belchertown, MA 01007.
