Blanche M. (Elie) LaPointe

SPRINGFIELD ~ Blanche M. (Elie) LaPointe, 96, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and a former longtime resident of 70 Shumway Street in the Pine Point section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, March 4, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at her home in Florida surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on February 4, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Phillias and Agnes E. (Martin) Elie. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School and lived in Springfield until 2016 when she moved to Florida. She was employed for many years as a secretary and worked at the former American Bosch, Van Norman, and lastly at the Mass Mutual Insurance Company. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection. She was a communicant of Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph E. LaPointe, Jr. who was Called Home on July 17, 1979. She leaves her two loving daughters, Jacqueline A. “Jackie” St. Georges of Fort Lauderdale, FL with whom she lived and Margaret M. Juneau of Manchester, CT; her five cherished grandchildren, Keith Fournier and his wife, Jessi, Jeremy Fournier and his wife, Jennifer, Brenda Juneau, Debra Swatik and her husband, Dan, and Amy Lundburg; her seven cherished great-grandchildren, Corrine, Amber and Zachary Fournier, Kayla and Bradley Fournier and Ashley Stewart and Elliott Swatik; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the LaPointe and Elie families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her loving sons-in-law, Donald H. St. Georges and Raymond O. Juneau; and her four dear sisters, Alice Audette, Rita Brunelle, Bernadette Boucher and Mary Jane Roy. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019 beginning at 8 a.m. from the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Foundation, 260 Cochituate Road, No. 200, Framingham, MA 01701.
