Richard A. "Ritchie" Cummings, Sr.

MONSON ~ Richard A. “Richie” Cummings, Sr., 80, a longtime resident of Monson, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, March 2, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Springfield, graduated from the former Springfield Technical High School and lived in Springfield for many years before moving to Monson around 1987. Richie was employed for the former Massachusetts Turnpike Authority for 38 years and retired in 1996. Richie enjoyed watching old movies including Gunsmoke and The Three Stooges. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed watching his favorite team. He loved his home in Monson where he enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Lorraine J. (Deshaies) Cummings who was Called Home on March 22, 2015. They were married on November 4, 1961 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. He leaves his two loving children, Richard A. Cummings Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Chicopee and Cheryl A. Beal and her husband, Roy, of Ludlow; his three cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Richard A. “Art” Cummings III, Amanda L. Beal and Royce R. Beal; his loving brother, Roger L. Cummings and his wife, Teresa, of Agawam; his brother-in-law, Roger Deshaies and his wife, Janet, of South Dennis, MA and Florida; his sister-in-law, Patty (Donoghue) Deshaies of East Longmeadow; and his many dear nephews, nieces, godchildren, cousins, friends and extended members of the Cummings and Deshaies families. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 10 a.m.). His burial will follow the service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
