Robert E. Clarke, 80

Robert E. Clarke, recently of Stoughton, a former longtime resident of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of T. Beverly (Spooner) Clarke, to whom he was wed for nearly fifty-eight years.

Born in Fall River, MA on. February 15, 1939, he was a loving son of the late Albert E. and Beatrice (Plummer) Clarke.

Bob grew up in Fall River, was a graduate of Durfee High School and proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Clarke was the proud owner and president of the United Oil Co. in Tiverton, RI. He started his career as an oil burner service technician for Pacific Oil Company and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 526.

Bob was an active member of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fall River, where along with his wife shared his loved of music and singing as a member of the church choir and attending theater shows.

Bob’s family was truly the focal point of his life. He treasured the memories of times spent with his children and grandchildren and was loved by all who knew him.

Mr. Clarke was also an ardent New England sports fan and an avid golfer. He was a member of Saint Joseph’s Golf league in Swansea and when younger, shared his love of sports serving as a coach for PAL youth hockey and little league baseball in Fall River.

Bob’s hobbies included working with his hands, tinkering around the house and the joy of making trophies for family fantasy football league and golf tournaments.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Bruce R. Clarke and his wife Lynne of Reading and Betsy A. Savoie and her husband Matthew of Mansfield. He was the adoring grandfather of Jennifer Shoemaker, Nicholas Clarke, Nathan Clarke, Jillian Savoie and Luke Savoie. He was the dear brother of David Clarke and his wife Laura of Rochester, Douglas Clarke and his wife Joan of Mississippi, Gerald Clarke and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be private and visiting hours have been omitted.
